April 17th, 2004: Central California

UC Davis will be having the tenth annual UC Davis Picnic Day Micromouse Competition, on Saturday, April 17, 2004.

Check-in will begin at 10 am, and the competition will run from 12-2 pm. Afterwards, there will be a brief awards ceremony, where we will present $500 in cash prizes.

Picnic Day is the annual open house event at UC Davis, so there will be a wide variety of attractions for visitors on campus. Our Micromouse Competition is but one of many special events scheduled between 8 am and 5 pm on Picnic Day. Other traditional activities include the Picnic Day Parade, the Chemistry Magic Show, a student fashion show, a multi-cultural children's faire, student organization booths, and community exhibits. Picnic Day is also known for the animal events it features, including the Doxie Derby, cow milking, a Frisbee dog contest, and a demonstration by the equestrian team. This is the perfect opportunity to test out your Micromouse and explore Davis a bit while you're at it!

June 19th, 2004: Birmingham, UK

The UK 2004 micromouse contest will be held in Birmingham this year on June 19th.  The website www.tic.ac.uk/micromouse gives the details. For the senior robot maze solving class World Champion David Otten from MIT in the USA has confirmed that he will be coming and giving a talk.  British Champion Dave Woodfield from Walsall will be here along with many others.   Mouse and robot builders might find the site www.robot.org.uk  of some help; the site also shows examples of the brass cheese prizes.

The maze will be the same one as used in Techno Games (BBC2 and TechTV).  For the wall following class there will be some Lego and schools entries.  The event will take place in the Think Tank (the revitalised Birmingham Museum of Science and Technology) which is situated in the new £114 million EU funded Millennium Point building the second largest Millennium project building in the UK.   Judging will be by Martin Smith of Robot Wars, Techno Games, Scrapheap Challenge/Junkyard Wars fame.
